As you may have noticed, I have not added any deviations for a long time. For this, I sincerely apologize; I just didn't have the time or energy throughout most of 2012.
In May, my Uncle complained of chest pains to his primary care doctor. The Doctor told my Uncle that he was suffering from heatstroke and just needed to rest. He went home and continued to go about his normal routine. A few days later my Aunt rushed him in to the emergency room; doctors told her that he'd had a heart attack and was having a second one as they spoke. The doctors were able to operate on his heart successfully but his internal organs were damaged from the lack of blood, and he passed away from organ failure a month later. It was a rough first half of the year.
In happier news, my Sister got married in October to a great guy, and I was asked to photograph the event. I was more than happy to do this for both of them but I needed serious preparation. I spent most of 2012 studying event photography and testing new gear in an effort to give them the best images I could make. In the end, I had about 400 best photos culled and edited out of around 1,000 shots. I was also lucky enough to shoot engagement shots for a friend earlier in the year, so I may add a "Weddings and Engagements" section to my photos here at Deviant Art in the coming weeks.
On tap for 2013, I'm going to be getting out and making trips to the many state and national parks in my area in an effort to make fine art images that I can turn into large prints. I finally have a full frame digital slr! I've upgraded my camera body to the 5dmk II and was lucky enough to get a used 24mm F3.5L tilt shift lens. I have a set of soft edge graduated neutral density filters on the way and I'm excited to use this combo for my landscape work.
I'm also making a resolution to do more macro and portraits in 2013. And of course, I'm happy to be back on DA regularly. Stay tuned!
