Very excellent shot, and great subject!

I find this particularly interesting because I am taking a class at Humboldt State about Quaternary stratigraphy. It's basically naming the sequence of sediments left behind by glaciation. The nomenclature for glacial sediments from the Last Ice Age in the western US is Tioga, and the Ice Age before it was the Tenaya. I believe these names come from sediments identified in or near this location! I would love to see Tenaya Lake for myself one day.

Thanks for the info, and thanks for the compliment! :)

If you can find time to make the trip to to Yosemite I definitely recommend checking out Tioga Pass road, it's less traveled than the valley and it offers some spectacular views! I think they may be using the original Native American names for that nomenclature if they're using Tenaya. He was the last chief of the Yosemite Valley tribe and a lot of stuff in the park is named after him. How are you liking northern CA?

Unfortunately I'll be leaving to go back East soon, but I will return to visit Yosemite someday! I love Northern Cal, it's very majestic. A bit too much "grass" for my liking, but the scenery is wonderful.
