Recently I was fortunate enough to visit both Carrizo Plain National Monument as well as Yosemite National Park. If you've never been to either I recommend a visit, they offer some of the most stunning landscapes and wildlife around.
The Carrizo Plain, 100 airline miles (160 km) north of Los Angeles, California is an area by-passed by time.
Soda Lake, its centerpiece, is a glistening bed of white salt, set within a vast open grassland, rimmed by mountains. The plain is home to diverse communities of wildlife and plant species, and is an area culturally important to Native Americans.
It is traversed by the San Andreas fault, which has carved valleys, created and moved mountains, and yet close up, is seen in a subtle alignment of ridges, ravines and normally dry ponds.
www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/bakers…Carrizo is a stunning place, and if you love nature you definitely need to check it out. As for Yosemite, the following quote from famed naturalist John Muir is a perfect description:
"It is by far the grandest of all the special temples of nature I was ever permitted to enter." —John Muir
The stunning Yosemite Valley comprises only seven square miles of the park and was named after the Ahwahneechee tribe of Native Americans, who were quite violent in their territorial disputes. Due to this they were referred to as Yosemite by other tribes, meaning "they are killers."
It's an apt name for a killer national park. I took a lot of photos in each park and will be post processing and uploading more in the coming days/weeks.
I hope you enjoy them!
